A Life Well Lived!

A Life Well Lived is a project I started a couple years ago.  I have written short “vignettes” notable examples in my life, that have inspired, challenged, and motivated me.  The stories are based upon my recollection, and as such, are sometimes inaccurate or incomplete — like my memory.
Girl!

Girl!

Girl!I suspect that I was a precocious toddler.  I don’t have any stories about being particularly verbose when I was young.  But knowing how my brain has always worked, and how my oldest son was, I was likely the kind of kid that liked to articulate words “bigger...

She is my Sister!

She is my Sister!

She is my Sister!I am the youngest of 5 siblings.  And, I’m the baby — by far! My older siblings (3 sisters and one brother) were spaced about a year and half apart. I believe my folks figured they were done with four. Then about 6 years after my next oldest, here...

My Distant Sibling

My Distant Sibling

My Distant SiblingMy sister Maudie was born 11 years before I came onto this planet. She was the first child, and I was the last of five! By the time I managed to arrive here on Earth, she was already on the edge of being a teen. She had lived through much of her...

Dave and his boys

Dave and his boys

Dave and his boysI’m always amazed at how strong the love can be between parent and kids. I know that personally, I have been completely transformed by the act of parenthood, and the strong love and devotion I have for my kids. And, it is not just my biological...

The Watchful Tree

The Watchful Tree

The Watchful TreeYesterday was Dad’s birthday (he’d be like 97, were he still alive), and it got me thinking of some experiences with the man. One that popped up was a camping adventure, in Rocky Mountain National Park, back when I was around 11 or 12: We were...

All the Dogs in my Life

All the Dogs in my Life

All the Dogs in my LifeI have been blessed to have so many great canine companions over my lifetime. Good dogs; great friends; trusted companions — all of them! Even though the dog friends have been many, as have the years, I have clear and treasured memories...

Sooner Boy

Sooner Boy

A Life Well Lived:  Sooner BoySooner was MY dog!  He was not the first dog in my life, by any means.  But, he was the first dog that was really mine.  I was his main person.  Whereas previous dogs in my life were generally either my dad’s or my brother’s dog, Sooner...

Aunt Norita

Aunt Norita

A Life Well Lived:  Aunt NoritaI have such fond memories of my Aunt Norita!  I recall how much fun it was to go spend a few days there in her and Uncle Chet’s house in Springdale.  It seems like we spent quite a bit of time down in Arkansas at Chet and Norita’s...

Ruth and her Rolling Pin

Ruth and her Rolling Pin

Ruth and her Rolling PinMy mother was a very strong woman — strong in spirit, strong in faith, and strong in will.  She had to be, to survive as a preacher’s wife!  And, to raise our brood of 5 precocious and stubborn Miller kids.  My dad, who I love hugely, was...

The Kind Historian

The Kind Historian

The Kind HistorianJoe Hardy always had a smile and a kind word, whenever I saw him.  In fact, I never heard a mean word come out of his mouth. Now, I was just a kid, maybe 9 or 10, when I was spending time with Joe. And adults often tend to keep their meaner side...

A Cherished Gift

A Cherished Gift

A Cherished GiftI had the opportunity to spend the day and night with my good friend Jeff, and his wife Michelle, this last week. It was part of a great week of reconnecting with Jeff and another high school friend, Todd. The best friends are often those that we’ve...
